With your help, we ARE making a difference.

Bow View Ringette

Bow View Ringette was chosen by the winner of our 50/50 US Open to receive 50% of fees. Their goalie academy teaches the young athletes as much about resiliency as stopping the ring. They used the $160 to help purchase new goalie equipment for their young athletes.

iNN FROM THE COLD

iNN FROM THE COLD helps families overcome obstacles that can lead to cycles of homelessness. hey buddie used your donations to purchase 156 pairs of socks for X92.9’s Sox that Rock campaign, cause everyone deserves warm feet.

hey buddies NHL Regular Season Pool

Our inaugural hockey pool has 21 entrants. Each paid $20 to enter. The winner receives 50% of the fees AND they get to choose a nonprofit to donate the other 50%. Stay tuned to hear which nonprofit is chosen to receive $210.

everybody deserves a chance

Gloves not Guns is helping at risk youths get their lives back on track. Founder TJ Sheehan and team are helping these kids get out of the gang life. They provide a place that cares about who they are, not the mistakes they’ve made. They are changing lives. They are saving lives. hey buddie donated $75 from our 4 Nations Cup pool to help their cause.

my buddies MLB Pool

Dallas, one of the best guys I know, is running a MLB pool. He’s going to donate 50% of the entry fees to hey buddie. 14 entrants at $40 each means hey buddie will have $280 to donate to a worthy community nonprofit. It fills my bucket to think about it. Pretty awesome support.

who we are

“hey buddie” started as a simple salutation I used in the spring of 2023 while sharing updates with friends and family on social media during my fight with throat cancer. Posting about my journey helped me process the stress, and the outpouring of support I received was truly incredible. It made a huge difference.

My cancer was caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), a sexually transmitted infection that can cause throat (what I had) and genital cancers, and is the leading cause of cervical cancer. The good news is HPV cancers and health problems are now 100% preventable. Since 2007, Canada has offered HPV immunizations, now part of routine school vaccinations.

After reading my story, three families told me they’d had their kids vaccinated. That really moved me. My story, shared with no grand intentions, may have saved lives. It was a reminder of how small actions can create ripples that spread far and wide.

In early 2024, inspired by that ripple effect, I registered hey buddie as a nonprofit organization. Our approach is a little different—we don’t focus on a single cause. Instead, we’re here to support them all, especially the small, community-driven NPOs where a little does make an impact.

At hey buddie, we believe that everyone needs help from time to time and that little things DO go a long way. Together, we will make a difference.

Mike

meet Mike, our Founder and CEO

Mike’s life has been a journey shaped by numerous traumatic events. From experiencing abuse as a kid, binge drinking starting at 14, his fathers sudden death in a sensational industrial fire, a heart attack in 2017, and a fight against cancer in 2023, Mike’s been through a few things.

The heart attack shifted his outlook on life. Climbing the corporate ladder took a backseat to family and friends. They became his priority.

Cancer, however, changed his perspective entirely. What started as a suspected throat infection turned into a battle that made him confront the possibility of having less than five years to live. Not see his daughter graduate high school. After some time in a depression, he decided to dedicate a large part of the life he had left to helping others.

Then came hope—his throat cancer was beatable with an 85-90% success rate. (Yup. Quite a roller coaster.) Now he’d have even more time to help others while growing old alongside his family.

The cancer journey opened up another world too. He began to remember some of the details of the abuse experienced as a child. He eventually needed to see a therapist to help cope. It’s hard to put into words how her work helped him understand who he was. It changed him.

In a weird way, cancer was a blessing.

Mike’s experiences fueled the creation of hey buddie, where he channels his passion for making meaningful impact by creating good vibes & stronger communities.
